Introduction

Welcome to the third module in this Professional Learning Series!

In module #3 you will learn about indoor responsive environments.

The learning environment should be relaxed, comforting, secure and aesthetically pleasing. This enhances the children’s sense of belonging and well-being.

Flight describes four important elements:

In this module, we will consider each of these elements and how you play an important role in making your image of the child, as a mighty learner visible.

Let’s begin with Time.

“Creating responsive environments requires awareness that the image of the child – a mighty learner and citizen – must be continually reflected on as educators respond to children’s interests and explorations through the design elements of time, space, materials and participation. (Makovichuk et al., 2014, p. 67)

“When you participate with children and families as co-learners, co-researchers, and co-imaginers of possibilities, you create responsive environments for children’s care, play, learning, and development that reflect an image of the child as a mighty learner and citizen - strong, resourceful, and capable.” (Makovichuk et al., 2014) Need page number.
